Electroceramics and Thin Films
Ferroelectric and piezoelectric perovskite ceramics and films for electronic and electromechanical devices.
Electroceramics are formulated to perform a specific electrical function in a device. The group seeks a fundamental understanding of the origin of high ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity in perovskite ceramics, and translates that understanding into materials for engineering applications.
Recent work includes alkali niobate thin films grown on silicon, where the group reports a large electromechanical response in a polycrystalline film, and the characterisation of domain structure by advanced electron microscopy.
